Wednesday Brunch: Bacon and Egg Tacos with Red Chile and Honey

I received Mark Miller's taco recipe tome, appropriately named Tacos, as a present from Jen's mom and brother just before we moved out here, and just recently, I finally got around to trying out a recipe from the book for the first time. I know some people prefer their cookbooks sans pictures, but personally, I love photo-heavy cookbooks. The first thing I did when I got this book--and the first thing I usually do when I get a new cookbook--was leaf through the whole book, looking at the pictures only, not even glancing at the recipe titles yet. That, I save for the second read-through.

Wednesday Brunch: Cold Sweet Potato Noodle Salad

Looking back over the previous editions of Wednesday Brunch here at Beach City Cooking, one thing I've noticed is that, so far, I've pretty much only been posting breakfast-y dishes for this weekly feature. Personally, 9 times out of 10, if a brunch menu is put in front of me, I'll order a breakfast item as opposed to something lunch-like. In that rare instance where I opt for something you'd see me eating at lunch, it's got to be really unusual and special.

Wednesday Brunch: Tortilla de Patatas

Today's Wednesday Brunch is a dish that normally wouldn't appeal to me, and is pretty out of the ordinary for me to even have made. The tortilla de patatas, to start, is nothing like the corn- or flour-based Mexican flatbread that comes to mind when you hear the word. I first came across this dish when browsing Wikipedia's list of egg dishes, which is full of fascinating articles about bizarre, foreign egg-based concoctions. All of which, for me, send the wheels turning and get me wondering what I should cook next.

Wednesday Brunch: Gaeran tost-u

It seems like we've got a little Korean food-themed week going on here at Beach City Cooking. I mean, between this entry and yesterday's Japchae, you could have yourself a couple of Korean-themed meals, and then you could make the Tagalongs for dessert. I'm not sure if Korea has its own version of Tagalongs, but if they don't, I think you could definitely eat Tagalongs after meals of Gaeran Tost-U and Japchae and still call it a day of Korean cuisine in perfectly good conscience. I mean, I won't tell.

Wednesday Brunch: Dutch Baby

Today begins what will be a weekly feature here at Beach City Cooking: Wednesday Brunch. You always hear about Sunday morning as the traditional day of brunch. But when was the last time you got up early on a weekday and treated yourself to a delicious breakfast? I use the term "brunch" loosely--personally, if I'm having brunch at a restaurant, I always choose one of the breakfast options. There's something very satisfying in making the first meal of your day breakfast-y.
